The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the CBSO Chorus have been forced to withdraw from the opening concert of this year’s Salzburg Festival, due to complications caused by Covid regulations.
Current quarantine regulations in the UK have meant that the CBSO and CBSO Chorus have had to withdraw from their performance at the opening concert of this year's Salzburg Festival.
The orchestra had been due to perform Britten's War Requiem on 18 July, but, due to mandatory quarantine upon their return to the UK, uncertainty surrounding social distancing while trying to stage such a large-scale work, and the restrictions on amateur choirs still in place in the UK, have had to pull out.
The Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and the Wiener Singverein will take their place.
