The new centre will open in London's King's Cross in September 2022
Guildhall School of Music and Drama has announced an extension of Guildhall School’s network of Young Artist centres across the UK with the opening of Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross in September 2022.
Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross will join Centre for Young Musicians in Waterloo and Junior Guildhall as Guildhall’s third centre for young artists in London. Centres are also available across the UK in Taunton, Saffron Walden and Norwich, as well as online. Based at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, the new centre will offer six courses in music, drama and production arts for five- to 18-year-old students on Saturdays during term-time.
Taught by practitioners and industry professionals with visits from Guildhall School students and tutors, the courses will cover a variety of styles and genres including classical music and will culminate in performances at the new centre and at other arts venues.
The five courses available from the centre’s opening will be Creativity Starts Here, Music Discovery, Drama Discovery and Production Arts as well as courses solely focusing on music and drama. The courses are designed to help student to build skills and confidence through practical teaching.
Based in the City of London, Guildhall School has been ranked number one in the Complete University Guide 2023's Arts, Drama & Music rankings, one of the top ten performing arts institutions in the QS World University Rankings in 2022 and the top conservatoire in the Guardian's University Guide. Young Artist centre students are also Guildhall Young Artists members, benefitting from development opportunities including performances, workshops and competitions as well as invites to performances from Guildhall School students.
Applicants do not require previous experience and will not need to pass an audition. Means-tested bursaries will be available as part of Guildhall’s commitment to access and participation. Applications can be made via the centre’s online application form. Those made before 12 September will have a 20% discount applied to the first term’s fees.
