As an ambassador Witter-Johnson will promote the Fund’s work as well as being a role model for young musicians
Music charity, the London Music Fund (LMF) has announced the appointment of multi-instrumentalist Ayanna Witter-Johnson as both an ambassador and a trustee.
As an LMF ambassador Witter-Johnson will promote the Fund’s work as well as being a role model for young musicians. Her first engagement in the role will be a workshop given to scholars of the Fund at the Royal Academy of Music in July.
LMF CEO, Chrissy Kinsella, said: ‘[Witter-Johnson’s] personal experience as a young London musician will be integral to our future plans as we develop and grow as an organisation, and I am certain that she will inspire the young people we work with, through her immense creative talent.’
Founded in 2011, the LMF aims to bring music education to the city’s under-served communities. Witter-Johnson will join the organisation’s team of ambassadors including violinist and Benedetti Foundation founder Nicola Benedetti CBE, saxophonist and broadcaster Jess Gillam MBE, and double bassist and Chineke! Foundation founder Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE. A full list of ambassadors can be found here.
Witter-Johnson is a graduate of both Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the Manhattan School of Music, and has been part of the London Symphony Orchestra's (LSO) Panufnik Young Composers Scheme as well as having taken the role of emerging artist in residence at London's Southbank Centre.
In addition to her appointment as LMF trustee and ambassador, she also recently joined the board of UK music charity Awards for Young Musicians.
Ayanna Witter-Johnson said: ‘As a Londoner myself, I fully understand the importance of supporting young musicians in the capital on their musical journey. The LMF is undoubtedly creating life-changing opportunities for young musicians to thrive so I am truly honoured to be joining as an ambassador and trustee and look forward to being part of the organisation’s fantastic work in our city.’
