UK leisure-time music organisation, Making Music, has announced the appointment of Miranda Glen as its manager in Wales. She takes over the role from John Rostron, who has held the position since October 2019.

Glen will support the organisation’s member groups in Wales as well as providing a voice for the Welsh leisure-time music community as a whole, continuing Making Music’s aim of championing leisure-time music groups since 1935.

Barbara Eifler, chief executive of Making Music, said: ‘We are delighted to introduce Miranda to the leisure-time music sector in Wales. Her passion for music and for it as a right for everyone to take part in and enjoy, shines through her every interaction. We feel sure she will continue John’s excellent work in supporting members in Wales and take this to the next stage.’

Originally from Canada, Glen has lived in the UK for over a decade. In addition to work in areas of the charity sector including youth work, theatre and antenatal support, Glen is the founder and musical director of a choir in her hometown of Llanfyllin.

Glen said: ‘I’m very excited to champion leisure-time musicians in Wales, both in the English and Welsh languages. This is a country where music-making of all kinds is deeply entrenched in the national psyche, and the opportunity to nurture it is a great privilege.’

Making Music represents over 3,800 groups made up of around 220,000 musicians with practical services and artistic development opportunities as well as advocacy and campaigning.
