Musicians' Union welcomes government U-turn on alcohol sales at music venues

Preventing the sale of alcohol by music venues in tier 2 would have made it financial unviable for venues to reopen
The Musicians’ Union has welcomed the government announcement that alcohol sales will be permitted in music venues in England’s Tier 2 regions, without the need for a substantial meal, provided that the event is ticketed and the audience are seated.
Dave Webster, MU National Organiser for Live Performance, commented: 'The MU is delighted that the government has listened to our concerns. Members who have been facing cancellations due to the ban on alcohol sales, except when a substantial meal is provided, can hopefully look forward to those gigs once again. Musicians being able to get back on stage remains absolutely key to their future, and this variation for live performance from the government is extremely welcome news for all concerned.'
