The Southbank Centre-based orchestra has deepened its connection with the streaming platform to offer playlists and more
The Philharmonia has joined forces with Apple Music Classical to help guide potential new listeners – and encourage concert attendees. The orchestra's 'curator status' is marked by the launch a new Nordic Playlist, tied to the ensemble's upcoming Nordic Soundscapes series.
The playlist, curated by Nordic music expert – and CM contributor – Andrew Mellor, gives audiences a taste of what to expect from the live concerts, while allowing Philharmonia fans the world over an insight into the programming, artists and themes of the festival.
‘There’s more to Nordic music than Grieg, Sibelius and Nielsen – but they’re a good place to start,' says Mellor. 'This playlist also includes folk music and music from the Sámi people, Europe’s only indigenous tribe and guardians of its oldest continuing musical tradition. We hear from the new, female-led generation of composers who are transforming the sound of the symphony orchestra in the Nordic region’s image.’
Since Philharmonia and Apple Music Classical formed a partnership in October 2023, the orchestra has released Dolby Atmos editions including Weber’s 'Oberon' Overture.
