The Vienna Philharmonic and Sony Classical have agreed to extend their long-term collaboration.
Sony Classical has announced an extension of several years to the label’s contract with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The partnership, which began in January 2012, was also extended in 2019.
This contract extension allows Sony Classical to internationally release recordings of the 2022 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert (which took place on New Year’s Day this year) across all formats – Digital, CD, Vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray. This year’s New Year’s concert was conducted for the third time by Daniel Barenboim in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna and was broadcast worldwide.
Per Hauber, president of Sony Classical, noted: ‘The close partnership with the Vienna Philharmonic, which has grown over the years, is a great honor for our label and the renewal of the contract for many more years is a wonderful confirmation of our successful cooperation.’
Sony Classical will also release the orchestra’s annual Summer Night Concert in digital and physical formats, recorded in the Schönbrunn Palace gardens.
Chair of the Vienna Philharmonic Board, violinist Daniel Froschauer and Vienna Philharmonic’s managing director, double bass player Michael Bladerer added: ‘We are very pleased that the cooperation with our long-standing partner, Sony, continues. Especially in challenging times, it is of utmost importance to have competent and reliable co-operation partners whose top priority is, like our own, musical excellence.’
