The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland appoints new chief executive officer

Dr Kirsteen Davidson Kelly will join the orchestra in January 2022 as the organisation resumes live events after the pandemic
The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) has today announced the appointment of Dr Kirsteen Davidson Kelly as its new Chief Executive Officer. She comments: ‘I am delighted to be joining NYOS, an organisation with a fantastic history and reputation for nurturing Scotland’s young musicians. I look forward with great excitement to celebrating NYOS’ return to live music-making and to developing accessible, inclusive programmes for the young musicians of the future.’
Beginning her new role in January 2022, Davidson Kelly will bring her recent experience as creative learning director at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as well as a background encompassing performance, commissioning, leadership, academia, and outreach work.
Lindsay Pell, chair of the NYOS Board says: ‘We are delighted to welcome Dr Kirsteen Davidson Kelly to NYOS and know that she will bring inspiring and creative leadership to the team for the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.’
Kirsteen joins NYOS as the organisation plans to resume the residential courses and live concerts prevented by the pandemic, joined by internationally renowned conductors and guest artists. The orchestra’s senior management team, who have led NYOS for the past six months have said that they are ‘delighted to be handing over to Kirsteen who, we know, will continue to develop quality learning and performance opportunities for young musicians across Scotland.’
