The Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) has announced that it has launched a partnership with Australian cellist Chris Howlett. The UK charity, which supports the early careers of emerging young classical artists, is joining forces with Howlett to create opportunities for its artists in China and the Far East.

As founder and executive producer of Australian International Productions, a company which presents over 150 concerts by Australian classical artists in China per year, Howlett is well placed to support YCAT’s exploration of the region. Howlett will build on his existing relationship with YCAT as artistic director of the Australian Bendigo Chamber Music Festival and co-founder of the Australian Digital Concert Hall.

YCAT CEO and artistic director Alasdair Tait said: ‘Working with Chris over the years, he has always provided YCAT artists with some of their most rewarding and stimulating performing experiences. His connections in China and the Far East will, without doubt, prove invaluable in bringing YCAT artists to an even wider reach of audiences and touring opportunities, essential as they develop as international performers.’

The news follows the announcement of YCAT’s 2023 additions to its roster. After an international audition process culminating in live auditions at Wigmore Hall, all six finalists were selected to receive YCAT representation and support. Through this new partnership, YCAT aims to strengthen its international connections and create a further benefit for its roster of artists.

Howlett said: ‘It has been incredible to see these artists flourish under Alasdair and the team’s guidance and their performances at our festivals in Australia are always a highlight. China and the Far East is without doubt one of the fastest growing markets in our industry and I am thrilled to be able to give the artists the opportunity to showcase their talents in mainland China and beyond.’
