Abel Selaocoe becomes Help Musicians ambassador

The cellist will join the charity alongside Abbey Road Studios' Isabel Garvey who will join the board of trustees

Music charity Help Musicians has announced the appointment of cellist Abel Selaocoe to the role of ambassador The organisation has also welcomed Abbey Road Studios managing director Isabel Garvey to its board of trustees.

The two will join the charity’s advocacy and governance with the aim of helping musicians rebuild their careers post-pandemic, as well as supporting them through the current issues facing musicians in the UK including rising living and energy costs and Brexit.

Help Musicians chief executive James Ainscough, said: ‘Abel’s understanding of the dedication it takes to build a sustainable career in the profession (and the value of the support that Help Musicians offers), makes him an ideal ambassador for the charity’s work. Isabel’s extensive experience supporting creatives to achieve their musical vision in harmony with highly skilled technicians and cutting-edge technology is invaluable.’

Born in South Africa, Selaocoe has worked with Help Musicians since 2015 when he received financial support from the charity for his studies. Selaocoe made his solo BBC Proms debut last year and will release of his debut album next month.

Isabel Garvey has led Abbey Road Studios since October 2014, with recent achievements including leading the launch of Abbey Road Institute and of Abbey Road’s music technology incubator, Abbey Road Red.

She said: ’At Abbey Road, I have the privilege of working at the heart of the creative process, surrounded by musicians. Help Musicians plays a vital role through all stages of the musician’s career, so I am excited to join as a Trustee to support the next phase of their evolution’.
