Alexander Chiu Yinghong presents 'Oriental Charm on the Keys'

On May 17th, the Royal College of Music's Britten Theatre will be hosting Oriental Charm on the Keys, a concert of piano works by acclaimed pianist, conductor, and composer Alexander Chiu Yinghong. Hailing from Hong Kong, the former Manhattan Music Competition champion studied at Wells Cathedral Music School and honed his craft under distinguished mentors across England, Austria, the US, and China; and developed a signature blend of Eastern and Western influences that is exemplified by compositions like Longing for the Spring Breeze, a poignant rendition of the Taiwanese folk song, and Shanghai Countryside, which his student Dong Feifei played at China’s Steinway Piano Competition in which she secured first place across nine provinces in China.
Having organized many piano concerts, Alexander will present a meticulously curated selection of 11 pieces at this event. Prepare to be swept away by musical narratives that will transport listeners to Eastern landscapes and the depths of love, alongside two other pieces will remind you of the idyllic charm of the English countryside,
Having trained in both Western and Eastern musical traditions, Alexander believes that music transcends borders and is a universal language of peace. His compositions aspire to foster a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures. This will mark the debut of his concert tour, which will feature different pieces in venues across the globe.
