The Crescendo Summer Institute (CSI) will take place in the Hungarian town of Tokaj this summer with 12 days of masterclasses running from 23 July to 4 August. Early bird applications will close this Sunday (12 February).

CSI is open to students aged 14 and above who are currently studying at a music academy or conservatoire or pursuing a career in the sector. Participants can take part in a range of disciplines including piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, voice, opera, choir conducting and chamber music. The course also welcomes established professionals and music teachers who want to continue their development.

Founded in 2004 by Hungarian tenor Timothy Bentch and violist Eszter Dudás, CSI takes a holistic, non-competitive approach to teaching. Alongside their musical studies students work with psychologists, theologians, and artists from other disciplines to improve their own mental health, self-confidence, and personal development. Participants are encouraged to network and learn about the practicalities of a career in classical music alongside developing their own long-term plans.

Since its launch the Summer Institute has welcomed over 2,000 students from over 50 countries, studying with a broad range of professional musicians and giving over 200 performances. Participants attend a mix of solo and group classes, concerts, lectures and community programs alongside sub-courses including chamber music, jazz improvisation, baroque ensemble or piano four-hands.

Early bird booking closes on 12 February, with general booking closing on 1 May. Students facing financial hardship can also apply for a tuition fee discount of up to 40%. You can find out more about the booking process here.
