Black Lives in Music platforms emerging talent at Classically Black 2024

An Emerging Talent showcase will offer musicians from underrepresented backgrounds the chance to perform at BLiM’s Classically Black event in October

Black Lives in Music (BLiM) has opened applications for its Emerging Talent showcase, offering developing talent from underrepresented backgrounds the opportunity to perform at BLiM’s Classically Black event at Kings Place. The one-day event, set to take place on 19 October, aims to shine a light on Black and underrepresented musicians and composers and ‘provoke thought’ around representation and equity for underrepresented groups.

BLiM is seeking early-career classical musicians and composers who are from a black or global majority background. Successful applicants will perform either solo or ensemble pieces at the Classically Black Emerging Talent showcase and will have the opportunity to network with the musicians, composers, and label representatives expected to attend the event.

Inviting applications, BLiM said: ‘Classically Black isn’t just an event; it’s a movement. By participating, you become part of a vital conversation about diversity and representation in classical music.’

Applications are invited individuals or ensembles of up to five members ahead of the submission deadline of 17 July. Applicants will need to submit a biography, CV and at least two performance recordings as well as an online application form selected participants will be contacted in the week commencing 29 July.
