South African cellist Abel Selaocoe and British composer Daniel Kidane join 40 Black artists and industry professionals for the first year of the participant programme, which attracted 512 applications from 363 music creators and 149 industry professionals. 52% of participants are women or gender minorities and over a quarter are LGBTQ+.

Those applying for the programme were asked to recount their experiences of racism in the music sector, and the first-year applications showed that severe issues around racial bias continue to effect industry professionals and music creators at every level, from freelancing through to senior management and board-level positions, at companies across recording sector, music publishing, live sector, management companies, on stage and on screen.

The PRS funded Power Up programme, specifically designed to fit the needs of the participants, will assist in the development of their careers to break through glass ceilings and accelerate change. This includes grant support of up to £15,000 alongside masterclasses, mentoring, coaching, mental health and wellbeing support and access to support from Power Up partners.
