The ensemble will participate in the scheme, a collaboration between BBC Radio 3, the National Centre for Early Music and the Royal College of Music, for two years
BBC Radio 3, the National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) and the Royal College of Music (RCM), have today announced that Ensemble Augelletti will be the second participants on the New Generation Baroque Ensemble. Effective from October 2023, the ensemble will participate on the scheme for two years.
The group was chosen to follow the scheme’s inaugural participant, the five-piece Ensemble Molière, through a ‘non-competitive’ process. As New Generation Baroque Ensemble, Ensemble Augelletti will participate in a programme of residencies at the RCM and NCEM designed to develop the group’s success, as well as maintaining a regular presence on BBC Radio 3. Over the next two years the ensemble will benefit from the range of expertise, performance and recording opportunities available through each of the scheme’s partner organisations.
BBC Radio 3 controller Sam Jackson said: ‘It is a privilege for Radio 3 to partner with the Royal College of Music and the National Centre for Early Music in forming this exciting relationship with Ensemble Augelletti. We are delighted to welcome the group to Radio 3’s New Generation family of young talent, following in the footsteps of Ensemble Molière; I look forward to witnessing their development over the next two years, and to the performances they will create for us all to enjoy – both live in concert and on BBC Radio 3.’
Founded in 2019, Ensemble Augelletti is comprised of violinist Ellen Bundy, lute player Toby Carr, cellist Carina Drury, recorder player Olwen Foulkes, and keyboards player Benedict Williams. The group was a finalist in the NCEM's York International Young Artists Competition in 2022 and won the Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella Young Artist Competition in Italy in 2019. Ensemble Augelletti were featured on yesterday’s Early Music Show on BBC Radio 3, the first in a series of regular updates and performances from the group.
Ensemble Augelletti says: ‘We are delighted to become the next New Generation Baroque Ensemble and very excited to have this wonderful opportunity to work in collaboration with RCM, NCEM and BBC Radio 3. The live concerts, broadcasts, and other experiences offered by the scheme will be invaluable in helping Ensemble Augelletti form the next chapter of our journey, and we are so thankful to the NGBE team for their support!’
