European Music Council elects new board

The new board will represent the EMC’s membership and decide on the council’s content and strategy

The European Music Council (EMC) has announced the election of a new board which is set to serve the council’s members for the next two years. Elected on 10 June the new board will supporting the non-profit organisation’s work developing and promoting music in Europe.
Comprised of seven representatives, the new board will decide on the council’s content and strategy. The board members will also represent the EMC’s membership, formed of more than 74 music organisations and national music councils who support the purpose and objectives of EMC
The chair of the new board will be Audrey Guerre, coordinator of Live DMA, the European Network for Live Music Associations. She moves into the role of chair from her previous two-year tenure as vice chair of the EMC board. Guerre will be supported in this role by the EMC’s new vice chair, Michalis Karakatsanis. He brings to the role over 20 years of experience in the culture sector including a period as president of the board of the International Association of Music Information Centres and his current role as administrator of the Cyprus Centre of Music Research, Innovation and International Networking.
As part of the International Music Council, the EMC is involved in music education, composition, performance, documentation, management, publishing and heritage across Europe, while offering its members policy support and networking opportunities.
As well as conductor Niels Græsholm, who will represent the International Federation for Choral Music in the role of treasurer, the board will include consultant Angharad Cooper (Center for Music Ecosystems); arts administrator Mila Georgieva (Bulgarian Music Association); musicologist, music critic and journalist Joanna Grotkowska (Polish Music Council) and pianist, journalist and communication & media expert David Zsoldos (Jeunesses Musicales International).
