Three finalists have been selected to participate in the final of the composition category of the 2022 Geneva International Music Competition. Each competitor within the composition division has produced a work for vocal ensemble, composed for six singers.

The three finalists are: Hungarian composer Armin Cservenak, Korean composer Shin Kim and Japanese composer Yuki Nakahashi. The competitors will travel to Geneva for the competition final which will take place on 26 October, with vocal ensemble Neue VocalSolisten Stuttgart.

Austrian composer and president of the competition jury, Beat Furrer said: ‘We have selected very different works from a large number of scores that were submitted... Each of these works is characterised by a very specific and personal language which, well beyond the purely artisanal aspect, expresses a creative originality.’

The jury will also include composers Hans Abrahamsen from Denmark, Unsuk Chin from South Korea, Stefano Gervasoni from Italy and Isabel Mundry from Germany. Applications to this year’s competition have broken records set by earlier years, with over 23% more entrants compared to previous editions.

Each composer will compete for the first prize of CHF 15,000 (£12973) with a second prize of CHF 10,000 (£8649) and a third prize of CHF 5,000 (£4324) up for grabs. As well as further prizes, the Competition’ Prizewinners' Career Development Programme offers two years of management by the Sartory Artists agency, as well as recordings, international tours and a professional training workshop.
