The new academy will bring together the Glasshouse’s entire offering for young people

The Glasshouse International Centre for Music has unveiled plans for a major new education initiative. The Glasshouse Academy will bring together the Glasshouse’s entire offering for young people with the intention to ‘transform music education in the North East and beyond’.
Designed to support musicians from early years through to launching a career, the academy aims to provide ‘clear pathways through music education’. The new Academy will offer a wide-ranging music programme encompassing classical, folk and jazz, and offering support for young musicians interested in songwriting, music production and beyond.
Glasshouse CEO Abigail Pogson said: ‘For two decades, The Glasshouse has been a place for people of all ages to experience and make music. The Glasshouse Academy builds on this foundation by opening up even more opportunities for young people, and ensuring the North East remains a thriving centre for music learning and professional development.’
The academy will be launched at a challenging time for music education, and coincides with a £20m fundraising campaign from the Glasshouse. However, the Academy is set to receive around £100k annually, thanks to a £2m gift from The Foyle Foundation. The next phase of fundraising will launch publicly later this year, with money raised supporting the Academy and helping to secure the future of music education.
