Guildhall School to host online evening courses for musicians

Throughout the spring, Guildhall School will be hosting online evening courses in writing for film, arranging and reharmonisation, and the history of film music.
Guildhall School of Music & Drama has announced three online evening courses for musicians, which will run throughout the spring.
Details are as follows:
Film Music Composition for Beginners
Ages 18+
Course dates: Tuesday evenings on 27 April, 4, 11, 18, 25 May and 1 June 2021; 6.30-8pm BST (UTC+1)
About the course: Participants will learn how to write music for film. They will analyse scenes from different films and explore how a particular genre of music complements a film visual. The topics addressed will include orchestration, composing with instrument sample libraries in LogicPro and the composition of original music to a given clip.
This course is ideal for: Anyone aged 18 or over who has a passion for cinema and film music. No prior experience of film music composition is necessary but a basic understanding of Logic Pro X is needed.
Arranging and Reharmonisation for A Cappella
Ages 18+
Course dates: Wednesday evenings on 28 April, 5, 12, 19, 26 May and 2 June 2021; 6.30–8.30pm, BST (UTC+1)
About the course: Participants will explore a broad range of contemporary vocal arranging techniques to equip themselves with the skills needed to create their own a cappella reimaginings of classic and contemporary songs.
This course is ideal for: Harmony enthusiasts, aged 18 and over, who wish to develop their vocal arranging skills. We strongly recommend participants to have an understanding of basic music theory, as well as an inquisitive outlook exploring the many different creative methodologies covered on the course.
Music in Film: Discovering the Magic of Music in Film, from Hitchcock to Scorsese
Ages 18+
Course dates: Wednesday evenings on 28 April, 5, 12, 19, 26 May and 2 June 2021
7pm-9pm, BST (UTC+1)
About the course: Participants will be encouraged to notice film music through a selection of iconic soundtracks and uncover the secret behind a memorable and arresting film score. This is a great opportunity for participants to share their passion for the genre, expand their knowledge of film music, and learn about the decisions taken by composers and directors in creating the soundtracks that are loved and admired.
This course is ideal for: Anyone aged 18 and over, with a passion for film and/or film music. No advanced knowledge is required - you do not need to be able to read music.
