Dutch recorder player and musicologist Erik Bosgraaf will take responsibility for the festival’s programming and creative agenda
The London International Festival of Early Music (LIFEM) has today announced the appointment recorder player and musicologist Erik Bosgraaf to the role of artistic director. Bosgraaf succeeds the festival’s inaugural artistic director, music publisher and creative produce Gill Graham
The appointment follows Bosgraaf’s most recent appearance at the festival as soloist and director with the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra in 2023. With his new role expected to be a long-term partnership with the festival, Bosgraaf will be responsible for the festival’s programming and creative agenda across future editions, starting with the 2024 edition.
Bosgraaf said: ‘I think LIFEM is a gem, bringing together lovers of early music. I look forward to strengthening its artistic profile, providing an irresistible programme at the highest possible international level.’
Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, LIFEM is set to return to southeast London from 13 to 16 November for a series of concerts, masterclasses, talks and competitions around a three-day exhibition of instruments at Blackheath Concert Halls and the church of St Michael & All Angels. Festival director Chris Butler said: ‘LIFEM goes from strength the strength and we are absolutely delighted to have secured Erik as our new AD as the festival continues to grow in scope and influence.’
