Rosas succeeds Simon Halsey, her former teacher, beginning the role in August
The London Symphony Chorus has announced the appointment of Mariana Rosas to the role of chorus director, effective from 1 August. Rosas will move to her new position from the role of associate chorus director, succeeding Simon Halsey, her former teacher.
A graduate of the University of Birmingham’s MA Choral Conducting programme, Rosas will take on the responsibilities of her new role with the Chorus alongside her new conducting position at the University of Birmingham and her teaching role in the University’s Department of Music.
Rosas said: ‘I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Chorus Director of the London Symphony Chorus. Having transferred to the UK to read the MA in Choral Conducting at University of Birmingham and studying with Simon Halsey, it is now an honour to be named as his successor. I am grateful for the support the University has given me as a student and alumna, and look forward to continuing working with the students in the coming years.’
Rosas moved to the UK in 2018 from Argentina where she had been assistant professor of choral practice at the National University of Arts in Buenos Aires and was working as a guest conductor across Denmark, Canada, Italy and Switzerland. Alongside her new role, Rosas will continue to hold positions with London Youth Choir, Birmingham City Council and with the regional singing project, Warwick – A Singing Town.
