Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras announce partnership with Trinity Laban

As well as supporting Trinity Laban’s undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, the MCO will support the conservatoire’s community engagement work
The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras (MCO) have today announced a new partnership with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance and The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. Through the collaboration, the MCO will develop the conservatoire’s historical performance activities with masterclasses, and immersive schemes for young musicians.
As well as supporting Trinity Laban’s undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, the MCO will support the conservatoire’s community engagement work which reaches students, young people, and people with disabilities in South East London.
Trinity Laban Artistic Director Dr Aleksander Szram said: ‘We are very pleased to be working with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra and the Old Royal Naval College on this partnership, which inspires each of the partners to connect world-class music-making to a sense of place and community. The unique strengths of each of us will combine to create brilliant work, starting with our first concert together on October 20.’
The partnership will also see the MCO work with Trinity Laban’s Greenwich neighbours the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC). Collaborative performances between the Choir and Orchestras and the conservatoire will take place at ORNC in addition to MCO’s regular concert season at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
MCO general director Dr Rosa Solinas said: ’As the world’s only conservatoire with a collegiate Chapel Choir, Trinity Laban presents an extraordinary opportunity for joint work in both sacred and secular music, introducing students to the Monteverdi Choir’s world-renowned approach. This three-way partnership between an iconic heritage location, an innovative conservatoire and a world-renowned ensemble presents an exciting possibility to collaborate at all levels.’
The new partnership, which launches at ORNC on 20 October with a programme of Anton Bruckner and Carlo Gesualdo, follows the announcement that founder John Eliot Gardiner will not return to the MCO podium after failing to complete a rehabilitation process after assaulting bass Will Thomas in August last year. The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras are set to embark on a Christmas tour in December with guest conductor Christophe Rousset.
