The new tool aims to drive systemic change within the music sector by encouraging organisational accountability and dismantling racism.
I’M IN – the Inclusive Music Index is a self-analysis evaluation and strategy tool exploring ten key areas within a music organisation: Motivation, Leadership & Accountability, Operational Responsibility, Organisational Culture, Recruitment, Managing Talent, Audience Diversity, User Experience, Marketing & Branding, and Procurement. Each area contains a number of statements designed to prompt thought and group discussion.
Following a 2020 trial period involving 60 organisations from across the UK music sector, the newly released full version of the tool will be accessible through two routes. The Independent Route is a free version designed to encourage greater accessibility which includes access to the tool and guidance resources designed to support conversation around diversity & inclusion, allowing music organisations to independently decide what action to pursue. The Supported Route is a paid version (costing £750) providing organisations with support from an I’M IN Advisor to help identify, work through and address any diversity and inclusion challenges highlighted by the tool.
Music Masters’ CEO Roz De Vile commented that although ‘the pandemic has exacerbated inequality of access to music for so many, and the music industry has suffered hugely’ the charity’s new tool aims to combat this ‘to build a community of like-minded organisations who will stand together with us to drive positive change.’
