A further accusation of sexual misconduct has been made against Spanish tenor and baritone Plácido Domingo.

The allegations, made anonymously by a Spanish colleague of Domingo, were broadcast on Spanish television yesterday. The unnamed colleague told Spain’s Salvados programme that the singer asked to touch her after a rehearsal and tried to force her into a non-consensual kiss at the end of an act during a performance in the early 2000s.

The woman, who said she did not report Domingo at the time, told La Sexta: ‘The first time that I felt unease was when we were rehearsing. He [Domingo] told me in front of everyone: “Listen, can I put my hand in one of these lovely pockets of yours?” I was wearing trousers with an embroidered back pocket.

‘I had a bad stomach because I thought what can I say to [Domingo] in order to carry on normally. If I tell him “no”, there will be consequences and if I say “yes”, I don't even want to think about it.’ She added: ‘He is Domingo. He is untouchable. He should not be, but I am in the shadows.’

These new allegations follow the damning conclusion of a 2020 investigation by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) which found Domingo had behaved inappropriately after more than three dozen singers, dancers, musicians, voice teachers and backstage staff said they had witnessed or experienced inappropriate behaviour by Domingo over three decades.

Domingo has not admitted any wrongdoing and no criminal case has been brought to court over any of the claims.
