Deutsche Grammophon has announced the appointment of Robert Zimmerman as vice president of consumer business.

Previously, Zimmerman was managing director of Berlin Phil Media GmbH, where he co-created the Berliner Philharmoniker's digital concert hall and the orchestra's in-house label. He also worked as a manager, consultant and film producer.

His remit with DG includes the oversight of audiovisual strategy and the development of DG Premium platform, including DG Stage.

DG president Dr Clemens Trautmann said: 'We warmly welcome Robert to the Yellow Label. Robert understands the tremendous power of music and images and the vast potential of the digital space to create new ways of experiencing great performances.

'His expertise in developing classical consumer platforms based on excellent audiovisual content and state-of-the-art technology is outstanding.

'Last summer we launched DG Stage in a matter of weeks to meet the demand to keep classical music live from both the artist community and international audiences, and to help maintain the vital connection between artists and their fans.

'Under Robert’s leadership, the next phase will focus on upgrading the technology stack and user experience to an industry-leading standard, enlarging its offering of high-quality content together with our artists and partner institutions, and further growing the global online audience of DG and UMG Classics.'
