The UK music industry is calling on audiences to take part in the first-ever Music Fans’ Voice survey. Until the closing date of 3 March, music fans will be able to share their views and experiences and be heard on topics from ticket pricing to genre preferences.

The first of its kind, the Music Fans’ Voice survey was commissioned on the recommendation of the UK Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee by Cardiff Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, The Mayor of London, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, West Midlands Combined Authority, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Belfast City Council and Glasgow Music City with support from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Brighton City Council and Southend City Council.

Filmmaker Edgar Wright said: ‘Music is an essential part of my life; not just work and play, it’s the heartbeat that keeps me alive. And live music flows through our communities, touching all aspects of our lives, inspiring, challenging and connecting us all. As a film director and a fan, I can’t imagine my life without live music. This survey is a landmark opportunity for fans to take a data driven seat at the table and it’s vital that we fill out this survey, so our voices can be a critical part of the future of the spaces and places we love so much.’

The survey aims to generate a ‘data driven seat at the table’ for audiences and help inform decision making in Government, the music industry and city regions around the UK. The survey has been designed by consumer analytics agency CGA by NiQ with input from members of the LIVE and UK Music trade bodies and the DCMS and has been reviewed by research partner Dr Lucy Bennett of Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: ‘Our live music industry is world renowned, with an incredible diversity of artists performing in venues of all sizes every night of the year. The industry plays a key role in driving our economy, but we know that grassroots venues continue to face significant challenges. I’m committed to working in partnership to support these vital venues and the first ever UK-wide Music Fan survey is a fantastic opportunity for those who love live music to have their voices heard – helping us to continue building a better London for everyone.’
