Young Classical Writers Prize launched by Royal Philharmonic Society

The Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) has announced a new prize to encourage young people aged 16-25 to write about classical music.

Young people are invited to write a short article of up to 600 words about a piece of classical music that they love. The full brief is available on the RPS website, but entrants should aim to ‘engage readers with the subject, prompting them to think further about it, inspiring them to listen to the music for themselves.’
The first prize winner will be awarded £1,000, with £600 and £400 awarded as second and third prizes respectively.
In memory of music writer Gerald Larner, the Young Classical Writers Prize is open to anyone living in the UK or Ireland who is within the age range on 1 January 2021. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of experts.
Applications should be submitted alongside an online application form by midday on Tuesday 2 February 2021.
