Clarinettist Jonathan Leibovitz wins Arthur Waser Prize

As prizewinner, the Israeli clarinettist will perform in two solo concerts and two late night concert performances with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra
Israeli clarinettist Jonathan Leibovitz has been announced as winner of the Arthur Waser Prize. The prizes fifth winner, Leibovitz will receive 25,000 Swiss francs as well as two solo concerts and two late night concert performances with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.
Launched in 2013, the Arthur Waser Prize aims to support young soloists at the beginning their career. Previous recipients of the prize include trumpet player Lucienne Renaudin Vary, pianist George Lee, cellist Edgar Moreau, and organist Sebastian Küchler-Blessing.
Leibovitz said: ‘It means so much to me to have this belief and trust in my work from the Arthur Waser Foundation and Luzerner Sinfonieorchester as I embark on my career. I am so happy to have the wonderful opportunity of making my debut with the orchestra in Luzern on 9 and 10 November 2022 and am truly humbled.’
Leibovitz recently joined the Young Classical Artists Trust’s (YCAT) roster after the music charity’s most recent Auditions Final in May this year. He is also a shared artist of YCAT’s American partner organisation, Concert Artists Guild, and was recently nominated as a Classic FM 2022 rising star artist.
Leibovitz has been a top prize winner at major competitions in Israel and Europe, winning first prize in the Crusell Clarinet Competition in 2021. He is currently a student of the Music Academy in Basel.
