Music Masters partners with National Gallery

Music charity Music Masters has announced a partnership with London’s National Gallery, which will see students on Music Masters’ Pathways programme become musicians in residence at the Gallery.

The newly forged partnership will give young musicians on the Pathways programme an opportunity to respond to the Gallery’s collection of over 2,000 paintings from around 750 artists. As part of the partnership, young musicians on the programme will take up residencies at the arts hub.

Music Masters CEO, Roz de Vile, said: ‘This is a hugely important and different type of partnership for the charity, focusing not just on music but on the relationship between music, art and creativity more broadly. We are so grateful to the National Gallery for working with us to elevate the importance of a creative education for every child.’

Designed to foster the next generation of talent, the Pathways initiative works to address the lack of inclusion and diversity in Classical music by specifically working with those whose backgrounds are underrepresented in the sector. The programme provides support to promising and committed pupils in Key Stage 2 including lessons with a mentor, performance opportunities alongside established musicians at prominent venues, opportunities to collaborate with fellow Pathways pupils and masterclasses with Music Masters ambassadors.

Music Masters works with schools to build an inclusive music sector by addressing the issues preventing children from reaching their creative potential. The charity organises long term, high-quality instrumental learning for all children as well as working with ambassadors including percussionist Colin Currie, guitarist Plinio Fernandes, pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason to offer role models within the classical music industry to empower young people through music.
