PRS Foundation, the charitable arm of copyright and licensing company PRS for Music, has announced the recipients of the current round of its Composer’s Fund. Grant recipients will receive up to £15,000 each to spend on a creative project.
Designed to encourage the creative and professional development of talented composers, the fund is open to classical composers who are at a turning point in their development where this funding would make a significant change to their career.
Elizabeth Sills, PRS Foundation’s grants & programmes manager, said: ‘This targeted and timely support for composers who are ready to develop their careers to the next level, is vital now more than ever in these uncertain times. I look forward to following the progress of each of the composers and their exciting new music projects.’
The six composers who will receive the grant are:
- Dani Howard for the recording and release her debut album with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
- Cassie Kinoshi to create a new work in celebration of Caribbean and West African culture
- Kerry Andrew for the development of a Music Catalogue Website
- Matthew Herbert to support composition, collaboration and preparation for the international touring of a major new work with the LCO choir and jazz musician Shabaka Hutchings
- Greg Caffrey to fund Dolby Atmos recording of new works
- Richard Baker to fund the release of orchestral and ensemble works
Launched in 2016, the Fund is designed to support composers at pivotal stages in their career. Successful applicants must therefore make a significant cultural contribution in the UK and an impact overseas as well as demonstrating critical acclaim and the potential to achieve a significant profile. The next deadline to apply for Composers’ Fund support will be announced in 2023.
