Corbett was awarded a £5000 prize and a place at the Gold Medal Final on 24 November

Ryan Corbett has become the first accordionist since 1997 to reach the final of the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) annual music competition.

He beat Alexander Lau (piano), George Harliono (piano), and Jinah Shim (piano) to win the category final, impressing adjudicators Alexandra Dariescu, Geoff Parkin, Sophia Rahman and Martin Roscoe.

Corbett is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is the first accordionist to reach the Gold Medal Final since 1997, and should he go on to win first prize, would become only the second accordionist to win in the competition’s 69-year history.

Jinah Shim was awarded the £1,000 Kerr Memorial Prize.

The final of the competition will take place on 24 November 2021.

Tickets: £15. To book tickets, visit www.rosl.org.uk/events.
