Benedetti Foundation launches in person adult learner strings day

The Benedetti Foundation will for the first time welcome in-person adult learners to its learning sessions next month. Glasgow’s City Halls will host the sessions on 28 May with Benedetti Foundation tutors leading learners in explorations of works by George Walker and Elgar.

Next month’s in-person sessions build on the success of the foundation’s Virtual Sessions. Launched in May 2020 these sessions ran throughout the pandemic, providing comfort and connection for participants. When the foundation received strong positive feedback from adult participants, a dedicated space for adult learners was formed.

Benedetti Foundation tutor Alex Laing said: ‘It has been such a joy to work with so many adult string players over the last three years and to build an online community together. It is clear the passion for learning does not dwindle. I can’t wait to meet in person for the first time and to have the chance to learn from each other and experience the joy of making music together.’

Conductor and violinist Laing will be joined by Foundation tutors violinist Andrea Gajic and cellist Su-a Lee to lead session participants in work on George Walker’s Lyric for Strings and the first movement of Elgar’s Serenade for Strings. The session is open to learners with a playing level equivalent to grade 4 or above (no grades need to have been taken).

Registration for the session will closes on 5 May. The cost for registering for the session is set at £30 but full bursary support is available.
